What is Macular Degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is when part of the retina, called the macula is damaged. You lose your central vision. Peripheral vision stays intact.   It is the leading cause of vision loss in people over 50.

What causes Macular Degeneration?

Age (over 50), family history, cigarette smoking, diet high in saturated fat (meat, butter and cheese) and being overweight are all factors that contribute to AMD.
